Update on the Armed Services Program
April 17, 2008
Last December, it was with great pride that we announced that WORD would be receiving seed funding to launch the first phase of the Armed Services Gynecologic Cancer Health Protection Program! Since that announcement, WORD has been working diligently to prepare for the funding and the launch of the program. We have been working with our partners like Purdue University and Publicis Indianapolis to prepare the proper documentation. Below is a brief portion of some of our recent descriptions of the new program.
“This initiative will be designed based on an understanding of the needs and perceptions of the intended military audience as prescribed by Health and Human Services’ publication “Making Health Programs Work.” Research will be based on subject outreach, and will provide an opportunity to demonstrate at what level women understand:
1. The molecular, immunologic, genetic, and environmental aspects of cancer etiology
2. The role, effect, and benefit of cancer screening
3. The importance and most beneficial implementation of diagnostic studies
4. The appropriate pathways of care for the treatment and surveillance of a gynecologic cancer.
WORD will create reproducible curricular interventions implemented over a five year period with the goal of increasing prevention and earlier diagnosis of gynecologic cancers. This efficacy-based approach will include highly interactive and informative websites, supplemental printed materials, e-learning, and media-integrated environments which will be supplemented by appropriate marketing which will be aimed at steering women to use the program resources.”
Our hope is that we will have the funding to start utilizing and reproducing this research and initiative among civilian populations. Our hope is that Spring into Summer Campaign will provide seed funding for the civilian initiatives.
As always, if you need more information on WORD’s Armed Services Program or potential civilian outreach, feel free to contact us
