Dear Friends of WORD,
As you know, September is both Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month and Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. This year the Women’s Oncology Research and Development (WORD) is working hard to build national collaborations and partnerships to further our educational and research goals.

2007 has been an incredible year as it comes to national medial exposure of gynecologic cancer. There was the national consensus on ovarian cancer symptoms that was announced this summer, there was the increased press on cervical cancer and the new HPV vaccine, and thankfully there has been much press on Johanna’s Law and the potential funding of new awareness materials by the federal government. However, with all this press, WORD continues to be concerned that there is not a real increase in new viable research and practical educational resources nor an increase of awareness by women who will be affected by these diseases in years to come.

We are actively pursuing some funding and collaborative relationships that will open new doors in research and education. In education we are pursuing and funding three key interventions:

  • A new full service website and marketing dedicated to creating new opportunities for women to learn about gynecologic cancer
  • New curriculum printed as a resource through the website - - and resourcing women’s organizations accross the United States
  • New training for Primary Care Physicians that will help with earlier diagnosis and better treatment

WORD believe that in the next year through many funding opportunities, these education dreams will come true! We hope that by next September the awareness and knowledge about gynecologic cancer is significantly increased. If you are interested in learning more about any or all of these educational objectives, contact me today and sending me an email.

WORD is also aggressively partnering with physician and scientists across the United States to pursue better treatments through clinical studies and earlier detection through basic science research! If you are interested in learning about more about these initiatives then please contact Dr. Linnemeier by .

We hope to have announcements about many of these initiatives in the next few weeks. Make sure you and your friends and family are signed up on our mailing address.

In the quest of a cure,

Nate
